In 1991, son and present owner Piet-Hein Kapteijns joined the company and with his enthusiasm and knowledge he gave the company a new impulse.
The cultivation of leeks was expanded and the surface area of the greenhouses was enlarged. It was also decided to look for some other products suitable for cultivation in order to spread the business risk and to obtain a better rotation of crops and to this day, the cultivation of leeks forms an important part of the company’s activities, although these days the cultivation plan also includes strawberries and Astilbe plants.
At the present time, Plantenkwekerij Kapteijns is one of the leading Dutch plant cultivation companies and has an extensive network of customers at home and abroad. The nursery supplies its products only to professional companies in the horticultural sector.
